Researching Sanur Port, Denpasar Head of Perkim Office Earns Environmental Doctorate Degree University General

The Head of the Denpasar City Housing, Settlement, and Land Agency (Perkim), Ir. I Gede Cipta Sudewa Atmaja, ST., MT., successfully defended his dissertation before the examiners of the Open Session of Doctoral Promotion, Environmental Science Doctoral Study Program (PDIL) Postgraduate Udayana University (Unud), in the Hall Room of the Udayana University Postgraduate Building, Denpasar, on April 21, 2025. Cipta, who has a high learning spirit, presented his dissertation entitled Sanur Port Environmental Management Strategy through Physical, Economic, and Socio-Cultural Environmental Impact Assessment. The doctoral promotion exam was chaired by the PDIL Post Unud Coordinator Prof. I Wayan Arthana, MS, PhD, whose members were Prof. Ir. Made Sudiana Mahendra, MAppSc, PhD, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Nuarsa, M.Si., Prof. Ir. I Gusti Bagus Sila Dharma, MT, PhD., Prof. Dr. A.A. Ngr. Anom Kumbara, MS., Prof. Dr. Ir. Syamsul Alam Paturusi, MSP., Prof. Dr. Ir. Rahman As-syakur, SP, MSi, PhD.

In his presentation, Cipta said that the operation of Sanur Port faces various environmental problems that have an impact on the quality of the environment in the form of physical, economic, and socio-cultural problems. This research aims to analyze the impact on the physical, economic, and socio-cultural environment; formulate an environmental management model; and formulate a strategy for implementing Sanur Port management in future environmental conservation innovations. Cipta added, from the research conducted, namely, based on the microbiological parameters of the seawater pollution index, heavily polluted non-residual and residual waste generation, decreased income of the traditional village, and unbalanced environmental carrying capacity for the activities in it, the ISM method is able to solve the complexity of the problem to produce a model and strategy for environmental management of Sanur Port and can be duplicated for environmental management of similar ports elsewhere. The novelty obtained is a port environmental management model with quantitative and qualitative approaches (mixed method), both analyzed by the ISM method. The environmental management strategy of Sanur Port using the ISM method is eclectic-integrative in identifying, classifying, and interpreting the complexity of contextual relationships between key sub-elements of each priority element so that the environmental management of Sanur Port is synergized, Cipta concluded in his presentation.

At the end of the open examination, Prof. Ir. Made Sudiana Mahendra, MAppSc, PhD, gave a speech as the promoter congratulating the promovendus and his family for successfully passing the final stage of doctoral education. In addition, he also congratulated the Denpasar City Government, which has added the leaders of its regional apparatus organizations with doctoral degrees.
